ESTA Holding Starts Restoration works for Kyiv TSUM Historic Facade

12.08.2015

As part of the project of Central Department Store reconstruction, the TSUM team proceeds to the restoration of the building’s historical façade in cooperation with specialists of UkrNIIProektrestavratsiya (Ukrainian State Research and Design Institute).

“One of the key features of the project of Kyiv TSUM reconstruction is the preservation of historic facades of the building. For this purpose, for the first time in Ukraine, we installed about 500 tons of steel structures, which held the façade during dismantling and construction of the main part of the building,” says Maksim Gromadtsov, CEO of ESTA Holding. “Now we proceed to the most critical part, which is the restoration of the historic façade built in 1939.”

The banner and steel structures that held façade walls during arrangement of the underground part of the department store’s building and the first five floors of new building will be dismantled in order to provide an unimpeded access for restorers to all elements of the facade of the building. The scaffolds for restoration works will be assembled instead of these structures.

“We continue construction of TSUM in line with the approved schedule and we plan to complete fully the building and proceed to finishing works as early as in November. Also, the work is continued regarding the conclusion of contracts with the department store’s tenants, who plan to sell more than 300 brands of various categories of goods in TSUM. Furthermore, this autumn we launch a comprehensive program to support Ukrainian producers. Each year about thirty winners of the open contest will be able to sell their goods in the main department store of Ukraine throughout a season without paying the rent," concluded Mr. Gromadtsov.
